As an African proverb professes, "Ora na azu nwa," or "It takes a village to raise a child," we at Alcott High School for the Humanities know the power of the parent in a child's education. That is exactly the reason for our approach: including parents or guardians whenever and wherever possible. It may mean chaperoning for a field trip to the orchestra or it may mean volunteering to sell Alcott spirit wear on Fridays. It could mean assisting in the teacher resource room or it could mean a college talk with your child, the AVID coordinator and counselor.

Accessibility and Accommodations
Alcott High School for the Humanities has undergone a $4.4 million renovation in 2009 and more work will continue during 2010. One major improvement to the campus comes in the form of an ADA-compliant access entrance into the high school. It is located on the north side of campus and at the corner of Wellington and Hoyne. During the summer of 2010, plans call for an elevator to be installed in the 116-year old building. Currently, wheelchair access is limited to the cafeteria and science classroom located on the ground floor. If you need any further assistance or clarification, please contact Dean of Programs Cheryl Gold at clgold@cps.edu.
