Welcome to your new high school!  You will find in this spot all the information you need to make a smooth transition from your current elementary to your brand new high school!  Check this area frequently.

High School Investigation for Incoming Freshmen
Members of the class of 2014--the incoming freshman class--are invited to High School Investigation (HSI) on Tuesday, May 25 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.  Students will learn more about their new high school during this time.  Parents are encouraged to come for a catered dinner at 5:30 p.m. Questions? Freshman Connection Dates Announced
Incoming freshmen (class of 2014) will meet for Freshman Connection during the week of July 7-13.  Students will have full day experiences led by AHSH teachers that include team building, the Humanities, getting-to-know-your-new-high school and much more!  It's fabulous and you want to be a part of the action.  If you are an incoming freshman, set aside July 7-13 for this all-important week.  Questions?  Contact Ms. Gold at 773.534.5975.

Note: The deadline for applying this year has passed; please check back later for next year's application.
Alcott High School for the Humanities, a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) performance high school, is open to all students throughout the city of Chicago.  Students can apply one of three ways for admissions listed below.  The lottery  begins with an application process in October and a postmark deadline of December 18, 2009.  The official lottery occurs in late January or early February. 

Alcott Elementary School
Students currently enrolled in the eighth grade at Alcott Elementary School are eligible to attend AHSH. An application will still need to be submitted for acceptance.

Neighborhood Lottery
A neighborhood lottery is held each year.  The neighborhood boundaries are from North Avenue on the south to Belmont Avenue on the north and Lake Michigan to the east and Western Avenue on the west.  Eighth graders residing in those boundaries may apply to the neighborhood lottery.

Citywide Lottery
Eighth graders living in the City of Chicago may apply to the citywide lottery.  Again, the lottery begins with an application process in October 2009.  Return to this page in October to download the official application.

Upperclass Transfer Request
On occasion, we are able to entertain upperclass transfer requests.  This is dependent upon the number of students at a particular grade level.  Upperclass transfer requests can be obtained clicking HERE or by contacting Ms. Gold at clgold@cps.edu.
