Alcott High School for the Humanities, a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) performance high school, is open to all students throughout the city of Chicago. Students can apply one of three ways for admissions listed below. The lottery begins with an application process in October and a postmark deadline of December 18, 2009. The official lottery occurs in late January or early February.
Alcott Elementary School
Students currently enrolled in the eighth grade at Alcott Elementary School are eligible to attend AHSH. An application will still need to be submitted for acceptance.
Neighborhood Lottery
A neighborhood lottery is held each year. The neighborhood boundaries are from North Avenue on the south to Belmont Avenue on the north and Lake Michigan to the east and Western Avenue on the west. Eighth graders residing in those boundaries may apply to the neighborhood lottery.
Citywide Lottery
Eighth graders living in the City of Chicago may apply to the citywide lottery. Again, the lottery begins with an application process in October 2009. Return to this page in October to download the official application.
